Common Rail Systems for Natural Gas, Biogas, and Hydrogen

Gaseous fuels such as hydrogen offer an environmentally friendly and economical alternative to conventional diesel or gasoline. Fleet operators and commercial vehicle manufacturers are increasingly adopting this technology, both for new developments and for retrofitting existing systems. Poppe + Potthoff provides customized solutions with its TOPAQ hydrogen distribution system and has developed innovative components for hydrogen applications.

Among these components is the Parallel Charging Unit (PCU), which ensures a safe hydrogen supply while reducing pressure pulsations. Additionally, Poppe + Potthoff’s H2 lines made from innovative PPH2 material offer maximum tightness and durability, even under extreme operating conditions or with highly volatile hydrogen. The reusable and certified metallic compression head connection of the H2 lines ensures reliable reassembly.

Poppe + Potthoff draws on decades of experience in the development of common rail subsystems and the validation of materials for gas applications. For customers in North America and Europe, the company supplies common rails and lines validated for gas pressures up to 700 bar. Prototypes undergo extensive testing at the technology center in Werther before the results are shared with customers for evaluation. Efficient series production is carried out at the state-of-the-art facility in Ajka, Hungary, ensuring reliable and cost-effective manufacturing.
