First factory tour at Poppe + Potthoff Präzisionsstahlrohre GmbH since the start of the Corona pandemic
For once, not sitting at a school desk and instead gaining practical insights into the everyday work of a local company: Company tours offer young people a good opportunity to find out about the possibilities in the professional world. For this reason, the 8th grade of the Peter-August-Böckstiegel Comprehensive School visited Poppe + Potthoff Präzisionsstahlrohre GmbH in Werther on 28 March. Although it is still about two and a half years until the pupils graduate from school, questions about career development are becoming increasingly important for them. To help them answer these questions, the school offers a career orientation week on the topic of “Work in the past and today”, as part of which the visit to the parent plant of the internationally active group of companies took place.
At the beginning of their visit, the pupils were given a general overview of the company’s history, examples of product applications and information about the various apprenticeships at the P+P Group. After an obligatory safety briefing, the plant tour then began, during which the pupils had the opportunity to get to know the pipe processing processes up close. Finally, a joint breakfast break was used for questions and exchange. The visit left a lasting impression on the very interested pupils: “I didn’t know that the tubes are also used in roll cages in motor sports. I find the different uses and manufacturing processes very exciting,” said Niklas. “I found the different processes in tube production very impressive,” Maria summarised: “Without the factory tour, I would not have been so easily aware of a company in the industrial sector. That’s why I find such a visit very useful.”
