A contribution to securing the national gas supply

Poppe + Potthoff Präzisionsstahlrohre GmbH reduces gas consumption by partially switching to fuel oil
Due to the current political situation, Germany is currently affected by an acute gas shortage. In response to this, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) declared the second of three gas warning levels on 23 June 2022. Even though the gas supply in Germany is currently still stable, a further deterioration of the situation cannot be completely ruled out. Such a worsening would have serious consequences for the German industrial landscape, among other things.
To counteract the current situation, Poppe + Pott-hoff Präzisionsstahlrohre GmbH, based in Werther (Westphalia), will switch from natural gas to heating oil for the operation of certain process steps from July 2022. This will achieve a saving of around 30% of gas consumption in local production in 21-shift operation. In this way, the company wants to actively help relieve the burden on gas storage facilities in Germany. The partial switch to another energy source has no impact on the work of the employees. Nor does it affect the efficiency of the individual process steps.
Not only because of its own energy needs does Poppe + Potthoff Präzisionsstahlrohre GmbH feel responsible for making a contribution to securing Germany’s gas supply in the second half of the year. By taking such a short-term measure to reduce its own gas consumption, the family-owned company is contributing to this at its own request, as it is dependent on a stable supply of natural gas. For this reason, too, relieving the pressure on German gas storage facilities is of great interest to the company.
